Client: StoryFutures
Role: Project Manager, VR Experience Lead
About The Project
StoryTrails, a part of the Unboxed Festival, allowed local people to experience their town in a completely new way through the magic of augmented and virtual reality. Audiences time-traveled via the wonder of these new immersive technologies to experience untold local stories in the heart of their communities. These stories were brought to life in the places where they happened, reanimating public spaces and creating a free, entertaining and playful family-friendly experience.
To make this grand undertaking possible, StoryFutures partnered with Trajectory Theatre to create Startr. This software and hardware solution democraties VR access, making it easy for everyone to participate. Drawing from their expertise in live events, Trajectory built a device management system that powered the VR tour across multiple venues.
About My Process
To meet the diverse needs of various install locations and manage inexperienced staff, I spearheaded the creation of a new VR onboarding tool. Envisioned as a holistic solution, it aimed to reduce the friction and cost of presenting VR work in location-based entertainment. Leading a team of developers and collaborating with a service design specialist, I leveraged my extensive experience with large-scale VR onboarding to create a product that addressed the challenges of the StoryTrails VR tour and supported future plans for its legacy. Additionally, I consulted on all aspects of the StoryTrails project, conducting hands-on visits to train staff and optimize audience journey designs.
