About The Project
In Pursuit of Repetitive Beats is a euphoric, interactive Virtual Reality (VR) Location-Based Experience (LBE) adventure that transports audiences back to the West Midlands in 1989, during the early days of the Acid House movement. From poster-strewn bedrooms to pirate radio stations, police headquarters to secret warehouses, you’ll step-into the shoes of West Midlands rave culture pioneers as you go in search of the party. Witness this social phenomenon first-hand, in an immersive exhibition and explorable virtual world set at the end of a turbulent decade in the UK. Combining Acid House tracks with interactivity and multi-sensory simulation. In Pursuit of Repetitive Beats brings to life the stories of the promoters, police officers, and rave-goers, whose rivalries and relationships drove a revolution in music and society.
“It’s a dreamlike, surreal experience, but when you’re driving along in the car, or when you’re walking through the rave, it does feel very authentic, it feels very real”

About My Process
In 2022, I spearheaded the technical and audience-facing elements of this LBE. I designed user journeys that maximised the efficient use of space, labour, and equipment, driving down costs while boosting throughput. I took on the challenge of installing and training staff across various venues in the UK and internationally, requiring innovative thinking to optimise existing equipment stock. By prioritising audience experience, I leveraged my deep knowledge of the technology to increase throughput from 32 people per day during our initial installation in Coventry to 120 per day, all within the same footprint and with only a third of the original staffing levels.
